Blessed Full Winter Solstice Moon

“Suddenly there was a great bursting of light!
And a shining star seemed to leap
Right out of the moon!!
~from A Winter Solstice Legend by Shekhinah Mountainwater

mountain-994224_960_720

If you’ve been following along on our Facebook page, you will know that we’ve been celebrating the Solstice with a post each day from Shekhinah’s 13 Days of Solstice. Once we’re all finished we’ll post the entire song, with photos (and maybe a sing a long?! sshhh…🙂 ) here on our blog. If you can’t wait, check out our Facebook or visit Shekhinah’s archive.

The Memorial Fund has received a wonderful Solstice gift! You may remember we mentioned that the Mother Grove Goddess Temple would be providing fiscal sponsorship for the Fund, allowing us to receive tax-deductible donations. Setting up such things takes quite a bit of work as you can imagine, but we’re very happy to say that everything is now finalized! The Shekhinah Mountainwater Memorial Fund is now fiscally sponsored by the Mother Grove Goddess Temple.

Our plan is to begin fundraising through donations, classes, and a fund drive. Our initial goal is $1,500. Once we raise that amount, we will open application for scholarship awards!

So, if you are considering end of year donations, please think of us. In a country where women make no more than an average of 78 cents on the dollar compared to men (that wage gap is much greater for women of color and transwomen), the struggle to support the often non-paying work of priestessing, creating, and community organizing is great. This leads to many women never being able to develop their talents and contribute to the community.

Your support will help create a new world in which women will rise and be honored for their work. Please consider making a tax-deductible contribution to the river of support that will be made available through the Shekhinah Mountainwater Memorial Fund.

Happy Samhain/Hallowe’en/Hecate’s Day

3hagslargeChange is what I’m feelin
This Darkening season…
the Crone is a-sittin’ at her Cross Roads…
stirrin’ her pot.

cross
we cross over
or
we feel cross
or
we have our cross
to bear…

She is wrinkled and bent
To Her task
Of Transformation
Beckoning us to jump in
“Come,” she smiles
“The water’s fine.”
And she offers us a star.

“Dive deep into my vortex
“And release what is ready for recycling
“Let go my loves, let go
“Let go of your old and inward pain
“Let go of your towers of separation
“Let go of your ism schisms
“Let go of your wounds and
“Scars upon your souls…”

“Replace, my loves, replace
“Replace with peace
“Replace with joy
“Replace with delight
“Replace with abundance
“Replace with your true heart’s desires…”

And She stirs us swirling in Her midst
Reaching in with expert hands
To ope our chakras one by one
All thirteen of them!

Behold the world awakes on the edge of a dream
And all earthlings now are being stirred
Planet-wide…
Time to shed, molt, unravel
And hatch anew.

“Don’t be afraid” She says
(Though She can’t resist a cackle or two)
You hug the star She gave you
To your breast
And watch it shine silvergold
Into your heart.

You arise winged and vulnerable
From the pot
Embrace Her warmingly and long
Then turn to the crossing beyond
Where Three Roads meet…

Will you go, oh my earthkin…
Will you go?

Happy Birthday Shekhinah!

On October 24, 1939 Shekhinah Mountainwater took her first breath in this world. She continues to inspire us, and all of the Wellas of the Shekhinah Mountainwater Memorial Fund send out a birthday wish to Shekhinah.

Happy Birthday, Shekhinah!

I believe the last time I wished you a happy birthday I said,  “I am SO glad you were born”.  I still am, yes… I still am and I want to say thank you for inspiring me, guiding me and shining a light on things I never considered ; thank you for supporting my dream to be helpful to others.

I’ve lit a candle today in celebration of your birth; as I was firing it up I started talking aloud… sharing about how your dreams of honor and  support  and how I am glad that Syren was inspired by you and that she got a Memorial Fund started in your honor to help support the talents of others through this fund.

This year, as your birthday rolls around I am chatting back and forth with sister Wellas …yeah, we call ourselves that in honor of your assistant, Wella the Mermaid!  We are a helpful bunch, working to inspire, support and carry forth what you began. We have these things in common and want to be helpful too.

I am totally making a wish with this candle I’ve lit for you….

Honor and support, I share your dream, Shekhinah and It is my wish to continue to work towards seeing it realized.

Blessed Be + Happy Birthday!

❤ Lisa

With Joy and Gratitude

Dearest Shekhinah,

I am still so grateful for your birth. Your life, with all of the joys and struggles that you lived with so authentically, has been such an inspiration to me. I hope that honoring your memory through the Memorial Fund is a gift of reciprocity that would make you laugh with joy.

It is in your honor that we do this, you know. No woman should struggle to complete her life’s work, no woman should feel that she doesn’t have the support of her community, no woman should face insurmountable financial challenges just to enjoy her existence. We’re carrying the torch, Shekhinah. One day, we will live in the world you envisioned.

From the depths of my heart, thank you. “We are infinite.”

~*~ Syren

heart stars

From all of us – Happy Day of the Remembrance of your Birth, Shekhinah! You have inspired us in so many indescribable ways. Thank you.

Welcome our new Wella, Linda

The Shekhinah Mountainwater Memorial Fund is very excited to welcome our newest Wella, Linda Buie to the Council.

Linda began her journey with the Goddess when she was a young girl hearing the folklore and traditions from her mother’s country of Thailand. Her dance with the Goddess would lead her to a copy of Ariadne’s Thread several years later, which moved her to enroll in the correspondence course taught by Shekhinah Mountainwater. Shekhinah’s mentorship and teachings would change her life forever, being the motivation behind her involvement in the Goddess community.

Linda brings with her twenty plus years of priestess service, both formal and informal. She is an elder in the pagan community and has founded her own tradition, inspired by Shekhinah’s teachings, based on the Eleusinian Mysteries. The tradition honors that of Persephone (Kore), Demeter, and Hekate. Linda is a staunch supporter and activist for victims of abuse, animal rescue/abuse, wildlife conservation, women’s rights, and Indigenous rights. She has three years volunteer work with a non-profit wildlife organization and seven years property management experience. Linda currently serves her community as priestess and spiritual coach, offering a variety of services at distance or local.

Linda approached us to join the Council and we could not be more thrilled. Please give her a big welcome and gratitude for her dedication and service!

Happy Equinox! Tribute to Shekhinah and Exciting Announcements!

Hello wonderful people!

There has been some exciting movement on projects related to Shekhinah’s legacy and the Memorial Fund that we can’t wait to share with you!

Last night Syren was on Voices of the Sacred Feminine radio with Karen Tate in a tribute to Shekhinah Mountainwater. The conversation touched on issues of politics within paganism, power and oppression, kyriarchy, capitalism, and polytheism, in addition to a remembrance of Shekhinah and her work. Tune in to the fun conversation, and be sure to check the comments for additional information from Shekhinah’s daughter!

Syren will also be on A Gathering of Priestesses on October 20, which is webinar and participant based. Join us in the conversation!

ShekhinahWorks, Shekhinah’s legacy project being managed by her birth daughter, is exploring the possibility of reproducing Shekhinah’s Tarot! She is looking for people who have had direct experience with Shekhinah’s tarot – perhaps you had a reading with her and you have notes on her card interpretations, or perhaps you took a class with her, or were involved in the original creation of the deck. As the threads of Shekhinah’s work are continually woven, input from others is essential and welcome! Please email shekhinah memories [at] gmail [dot] com.

Also, Shekhinah’s integral work, Ariadne’s Thread, is available in PDF from ShekhinahWorks. The goal is to release it on Kindle, but the book will need to be retyped and reformatted from scratch. If you would like to help with this project, please send an email to the address above.

To stay up to date on the projects through ShekhinahWorks, follow the Facebook page.

We have some exciting news about the Memorial Fund! Mother Grove Goddess Temple will be partnering with the Shekhinah Mountainwater Memorial Fund to provide fiscal sponsorship. This means that we will soon be able to begin fundraising efforts, donations will be tax deductible, and applications and awards will be available shortly thereafter!

In the interest of full transparency, Syren Nagakyrie, the founder of the Memorial Fund, was also a co-founder of Mother Grove. However Syren no longer lives in the area and is not involved in operations of the Temple. It does remain her spiritual home, and Syren and the rest of the Wellas are extremely grateful to the Temple for providing this service and financial oversight.

Mother Grove is a fully operational ‘brick and mortar’ nondenominational Goddess Temple in Asheville NC providing religious education and services, rituals, training and ordination, and community outreach and support. They are a wonderful model for creating non-hierarchical structures that serve the religious community.

That’s all for now. As always, if you know of a project by any woman that would be of interest to the Goddess community, please send in a short description, bio, and links and we will feature it on our Facebook page and on the website.

Happy Autumn Equinox!

Here’s a little something on the Autumn Equinox from Shekhinah, which she called Persephone’s Day in her Goddess Year. Blessings to you all as we enter the endarkenment of the year.

This is the women’s holy day of Moonpaws… menopause… when the Goddess descends to meet the Crone in the Underworld.  Persephone, the Dark Maiden, walks into the Mysteries.   She is Maiden… but She is also Mother and Crone and all the aspects are each other.  Her Croneself Hecate teaches Her about Immortality, Manifestation, and Healing.  Once again.  She will bide in the Spirit World through the winter, as seeds sleep beneath the earth, and will sprout green upwards again come Spring.  Now she is Persephone…then she will be Kore.  She is the cycling Goddess and the “fate of the grain.”

Going within is an appropriate theme for this time.  Like Birdalone, in my tarot deck, image of a cloaked woman going towards the moon.  Like the woman whose children have grown and flown, so that she now has time for herself.  Like the onset of moonpaws when a woman no longer has to mother as much as she used to, and she can take on the cloak of cronehood.
Like the separation between Demeter and Persephone, as Persephone grows up and away to become Herself.

“…Dark Goddess gonna set you free….”

Let it be a good dark.  The dark of warming in bed beneath sweet smelling sheets and blankets.  The dark of a velvet night sky spangled with silver.  The dark of a woman’s dark eyes.  The dark of the womb, the dark of the moon.  “Endarkenment” my friend Sandra Pastorious coined.

There is magic here,  in the glorious dark.  I see us all together, circling in the Underworld.. in Faery.  A circle of Crone Goddesses surrounds our circle.  We pass the rattle and talk about what we are ready to harvest – or let go of – and what we are changing into.  We rise in procession and each take a dip in Hecate’s cauldron.  We cast off what is finished into the pot…arise renewed.  We walk together to the ancient Crossroads… where “three roads meet.”   And there we make our choices for the coming of winter.

Blessed Persephone Day to you all, dear ones.

Much love,
Shekhinah

Statement of Inclusion

The Council of the Shekhinah Mountainwater Memorial Fund is pleased to release this statement of inclusion. We welcome constructive feedback and input from the community.

The Shekhinah Mountainwater Memorial Fund has been created to be, and will always be, a source of support for women. We believe in the power of individuals to self-identify, and recognize that it is a tool of the oppressors to label others. Thus, the Shekhinah Mountainwater Memorial Fund will be open to all individuals who identify as a woman, and who, living fully as a woman, identify with the diversity of the lived experiences of women. As a movement towards justice, we are especially welcoming to those women who struggle to do their work and have their voice heard due to issues of identity and class.

The Fund has been and remains dedicated to practicing diversity and inclusion. We stand against racism, bigotry, and other tactics of oppression in a vision for a world of justice and liberation for all women. Shekhinah was not exclusionary; she taught men and welcomed transwomen into community. She remained passionately dedicated to the spiritual lives and work of women, and more than anything believed the fall of patriarchy and capitalism would free us ALL – for we are all affected by the oppression of these systems.
